FAYE&CALLA JEWELLERY

Beauty is in
the details.

The materials, finishes and thoughtful care behind your everyday favourites.

Knowing what your jewellery is made from helps you choose a piece that suits your style, your routine and your skin. Here, we explain our commonly used materials, what a gold PVD finish means, and the small care habits that help keep your pieces looking their best.

Materials can vary between designs. Always check the individual product description for the details of your chosen piece.

Behind the finish

A piece of jewellery has more than one material detail to consider. Its base metal gives it structure, while its surface finish creates its colour and appearance. Any stones, settings, clasps or decorative elements may have their own care needs.

Stainless steel

Many Faye&Calla designs use stainless steel as their base metal. It offers strength and resistance to everyday corrosion, making it a practical choice for frequently worn jewellery.

Resistance does not mean a piece is impossible to damage. Contact with abrasive surfaces, repeated friction and harsh cleaning products can still affect its appearance. Gentle handling is important for polished surfaces, delicate details and any additional components.

18K gold PVD finish

Selected gold-tone styles have an 18K gold PVD (physical vapour deposition) coating over stainless steel. This is a gold-coloured finish applied to a base metal, not solid 18K gold.

PVD generally provides a more durable finish than some traditional plating methods, but it can still wear or scratch over time. How a piece is worn, stored and cleaned can influence how its surface looks as it ages.

Gold finish is not the same as solid gold

The words “18K gold PVD” describe the finish, not a piece made entirely from 18K gold. A coated design has a base metal beneath its surface layer. Unless an individual product is expressly described as solid gold, please do not interpret a gold-tone appearance or an 18K finish description as a solid-gold claim.

Water contact, explained

Our specified stainless steel and PVD styles are made for everyday contact with water, including showers and swimming. This does not mean every design, finish or decorative component has identical water resistance. Follow the information for your particular item rather than assuming that one piece's guidance applies to the whole collection.

After showers or swimming

Salt water, chlorine, soap, cosmetics and cleaning agents can affect the appearance or lifespan of a finish over time. After exposure, rinse away residue with clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Avoid leaving jewellery damp in a closed pouch or bathroom storage space.

When in doubt, take it off

If you are unsure about a piece's materials or components, removing it before swimming, showering or using cleaning products is the more cautious option. Contact us with the product name if you would like help understanding its care requirements.

Comfort is personal

Skin sensitivity

We aim to offer jewellery that is comfortable for everyday wear. Skin reactions vary, and we cannot promise that every piece will suit every allergy. A material that feels comfortable for one person may not suit someone else.

If you have a known metal sensitivity, contact us for the precise materials of a particular item before ordering. Please tell us which product you are considering and which material you need to avoid, so we can help you find the relevant information. Do not assume that stainless steel means a product is suitable for every metal allergy.

A little care goes a long way

Simple, gentle care helps protect the appearance of your jewellery without making your routine complicated. Always give any product-specific instructions priority.

Clean gently

Wipe your pieces with a soft cloth to remove everyday residue. Avoid abrasive products, rough brushes and vigorous polishing that could scratch a surface or affect a coating. Take extra care around settings, joins and decorative details rather than rubbing them forcefully.

Keep products away from the finish

Where practical, apply perfume, body lotion and other cosmetics before putting your jewellery on, allowing them to dry first. Remove pieces before handling household cleaning agents. Reducing direct contact with these products is a simple way to limit residue and unnecessary exposure.

Store each piece separately

Store jewellery in a clean, dry place and keep pieces apart to help prevent scratches and tangles. Lay delicate chains carefully rather than pulling on knots. Make sure pieces are dry before putting them away, and avoid storing them loose with harder objects that can rub against their finish.

Be mindful of friction

Repeated rubbing against hard surfaces can leave marks over time. Take care when wearing rings and bracelets during activities that put pressure on the metal or bring it into contact with rough surfaces. A durable material still benefits from thoughtful handling.

Choosing with confidence

Before ordering, read the product description for its stated base metal, finish and any special care information. Different designs can use different materials or components, even when they share a similar colour or style.

If a detail is important to you and is not listed, ask us before purchasing. We would rather help you understand the piece than have you rely on an assumption about its composition, water resistance or suitability for sensitive skin.
